Last week`s sixth-grade adventures part 2! The week of experiences continued with “Drop Everything and Read” in the library with advisory groups, and then it was off to Buddies with the 3rd grade. The students did a ‘rounding’ math activity with dice and whiteboards in the Nelson playground area. 六年级的学生帮了大忙! After the younger students returned to class, the sixth grade headed up for team-building on the ropes course! Students were split into three groups and did various low ropes activities in the morning, 午饭后, each ropes group had the opportunity to do two high ropes climbs – “Multivine”, “棘手的忍者,和“猫步”。. Friday was spent in more activities on campus and ended with a trip to Flight Adventure Park. 多棒的一周啊!

Seventh graders went to Camp Jewell YMCA in Colebrook, CT, for two nights last week. 通过团队建设活动, 防火建筑和室外烹饪, 以及高低绳索元件, students strengthened their bonds as a class. Highlights included a dazzling outdoor talent show and, of course, s`mores by the campfire. What a fantastic time, and the weather couldn`t have been better!

For a Fun Friday activity, we decided to do some tasty math. The children sorted, graphed, and counted before they could eat their special treat. We used white cheddar snacks Bag O Bones (Cheetos) that were in the shape of different bones. There were ribs, skulls, leg and arm bones, feet and hand-shaped bones. The first task was to sort them according to their shape. Then they placed the shapes in different rows on their graph and counted them, then crossed out the boxes to represent that number. The best part of our math activity was that after they completed their math, 计数和绘图, they were allowed to eat their special treat! Who knew that math could be fun and delicious.

What a series of adventures the Sixth-grade students had last week! It started with a tour and workshop at the New Britain Museum of American Art (students made their own ‘gallery’ in the “Curator for a Day” workshop). 这次旅行的主题是“什么是艺术”?” and the students were very thoughtful and engaged! Thank you to the NBMAA for hosting such an excellent program! Students then had lunch on the NBMAA terrace and took a class picture outside the museum – it was lovely weather.

在下午, the group visited the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford, 在小组中进行了一些探索, and then did a “Gene-ius of Taste” lab activity in which we extracted our DNA from cheek cells! Thank you to the staff at the Science Center, the students had lots of fun!

Third-grade students spent the last two weeks in PE class preparing for today`s field trip to Chatfield Hollow. Students hiked the trails on campus to increase comfort, learn the best carry-in and carry-out practices, and gain a greater appreciation of nature. 他们运用他们的地图知识 & trail blazes and worked on team building. 他们征服了攀岩墙! 他们准备好了!

幼儿园 students have been studying "Nature at Renbrook" in STEM class. They explored bark rubbing on different types of trees on campus while learning how bark protects the trees in all seasons. They finished their lesson collecting fall leaves and used their bark rubbings to make containers for them. 🍁🍂#bringinglearningtolife #renbrookschool
